Missouri AG announces the top consumer complaints of 2022

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey on Monday announced the top 10 consumer complaints received in 2022, revealing illegal telemarketing calls as the top consumer complaint among Missourians.
“As Attorney General, I want to enforce the laws that are written, which also means being a voice for Missouri consumers by holding scammers accountable,” Bailey said in the press release.
Last year, Bailey’s office received over 39,000 complaints related to illegal telemarketing calls and no-call violations, dramatically surpassing any other complaint the attorney general had received in 2022, according to a press release.
Following the no-call violations, Bailey’s Office received nearly 2,000 consumer complaints related to home repairs, construction and real estate. That’s about 95% fewer complaints than the bureau received for no-call violations.
“Our Consumer Protection Department works tirelessly to investigate complaints about arbitration and fraudulent companies or individuals taking advantage of Missouri citizens,” Bailey said in the press release.
Other common complaints received by Bailey’s office last year included complaints relating to automobiles and auto repair shops, retail and wholesale businesses and collection agencies, loan repairs and disputes with financial institutions.
Missourians who believe they have experienced consumer fraud are encouraged to file a complaint with Bailey’s Office.

“Tackling fraudsters will continue to be a top priority for my office as we seek to protect Missourians from fraud,” Bailey said in the release.
