Minneapolis police say toddler in stolen SUV is now safe – Twin Cities


Minneapolis police say a 1-year-old boy is now safe after he was in a stolen SUV in South Minneapolis on Friday afternoon.

The issue resulted in the issuance of an AMBER Alert.

Minneapolis police said the stolen vehicle was found unused at about 6:40 p.m. at the 3700 block of East Lake Street. Police also said, citing Brooklyn Park authorities, that the child was located and safe with its mother.

Minneapolis police responded to a 3:30 p.m. call about a boy inside a 2008 white Buick Enclave that was stolen near Bloomington Avenue and Lake Street.

Police say the boy’s mother, Rayray Powell, briefly exited the running SUV. One suspect is described as a Black man in a black sweater who took the car – with the boy inside – and fled east on Lake Street.

No other information on the incident was available after the evening update.
