Miami-Dade cop shot dead, suspect dead after Miami shooting

MIAMI – A Miami-Dade County Police Department officer was shot dead in Miami Monday night.

Local 10 News has learned that the robbery detail officer is with the MDPD.

The suspect who opened fire was shot dead by police, according to Local 10 News sources.

Local 10 News’ Terrell Forney arrived at a crime scene near the intersection of Northwest 62nd Street and 17th Avenue where armed officers were seen surrounding a vehicle.

The suspect, who was in that vehicle, managed to escape from the police.

Shortly thereafter, ten blocks away at Northwest 62nd Street and 7th Avenue, the vehicle was involved in a multiple-car collision, resulting in gunfire.

Authorities briefly closed I-95 to get the injured RID officer in critical condition to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center.

Dozens of police officers almost immediately began to gather at the hospital to show their support for their injured colleague.


Police have not yet provided any official information about the officer, the suspect or the incident that led to the shooting.
