A 14-year-old boy named “El Chapito” has been arrested in connection with the drug-related killing of eight people in Mexico.

The boy – whose identity was not released but was named after jailed drug lord Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzman – was taken into custody near Mexico City, the federal Public Safety Agency said on Thursday.

The victims threw a party at their home in the low-income suburb of Chimalhuacan on January 22, which reportedly marked a birthday.

The boy is accused of riding his motorcycle to the house and shooting at the family.

In addition to the eight fatalities, two children and five adults were injured.

Another man was arrested and seven other members of the gang were taken into custody on drug-related charges.

The motive for the shooting was not disclosed to the public.

It’s not the first child killer in Mexico.

In 2010, a 14-year-old boy named Edgar, nicknamed “El Ponchis,” was arrested by soldiers. He claimed he was kidnapped and drugged at the age of 11 and threatened to work for the South Pacific cartel linked to the Beltran Levya gang. The boy admitted to having attended at least four beheadings.

Drug gangs in Mexico often kill their rivals who sell drugs in their area, and sometimes engage in kidnappings and contract killings.

El Chapito’s arrest comes more than two months after Mexican authorities arrested one of El Chapo Guzman’s sons. The drug lord’s 32-year-old son, Ovidio Guzman Lopez, was arrested in the northwestern city of Culiacan in early January.

Lopez was being held in Mexico City awaiting extradition to the United States on drug trafficking charges.

El Chapo was arrested in 2016 and some of his sons took control of the Sinaloa cartel. His sons became known as “los Chapitos” or “little Chapos”. The 14-year-old boy arrested last is not known to be related to El Chapo’s family.
