Met police officer faces 21 counts of rape

A Met cop was charged with 44 felonies, including 21 rapes.
PC David Carrick, 47, faces an eight-week trial beginning in February.
The alleged crimes took place over a 17-year period and against 12 women.
Carrick was suspended from the Met.
He had previously served as an armed officer with the Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command and worked on the Parliamentary estate.
He appeared at Snaresbrook Crown Court today via video link from Belmarsh Prison.
Carrick spoke to confirm his name before pleading not guilty to 15 charges, including eight counts of rape, two counts of penetrative assault, four counts of sexual assault and attempted rape against five women.
The charges include allegations that Carrick raped a woman in the woods and sexually assaulted her by urinating on her and hitting her with a belt.
He has previously denied 29 other charges and now faces a total of 44 charges between March 2004 and September 2020.
The indictment alleges that some of Carrick’s women were repeatedly raped, sexually assaulted and coerced into degrading sexual acts.
A woman is said to have been mistakenly locked in a closet under the stairs.
Judge Cheema-Grubb set a hearing date for February 6 at Southwark Crown Court.
It’s supposed to last eight weeks.
She said: “This is an extensive trial with very serious criminal charges. The problem in this case will be the central consent in relation to the dozen complainants.’
Carrick was remanded in custody.
The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards is monitoring the case, and further comment is expected after the criminal case is completed.
