Merseyside: Driver with pint on dashboard ‘too drunk’ for breath test

A driver was pulled over after police spotted a pint of San Miguel on his dashboard.
The van driver was pulled over by Merseyside Police’s road policing unit in Kirkby around 10.40pm on Monday.
Police reported the incident on Twitter and shared a photo of the beer glass on the vehicle’s dashboard.
Officers said the 31-year-old driver was “too drunk” to do a breath analysis and was arrested at the scene.
“Any idea what made us stop this?” the troupe said.
“The driver was too drunk to take care of himself and was arrested and is now in custody. Another selfish drunk driver off the streets.’
In an update today, a Merseyside Police spokesman said the 31-year-old Bootle man had been arrested and remains in custody.
“Officers pulled over a delivery truck in the Whitefield Drive area of Kirkby around 10.40pm last night,” the statement said.
“A 31-year-old Bootle man was arrested on suspicion of failing to provide a sample for analysis, failing to cooperate in a pre-test, possession of a Class A controlled drug (cocaine) and using a vehicle without third party insurance. He is currently in custody.’
