Merrimac Fire combats 3-alarm fire – Boston News, Weather, Sports

MERRIMAC, MASS. (WHDH) – Merrimac Fire Services were battling a three-alarm fire at a single-family home on Sunday.

At approximately 2:15 p.m., Merrimac Fire received a 911 call reporting a building fire. The first firefighters to arrive were hit by heavy flames, causing the fire to reach three alarms. Additional equipment and personnel also responded to the scene. The flames from the house engulfed nearby brush and wood and spread quickly before Merrimac Fire and other groups doused the flames.

Three firefighters went to area hospitals — two for injuries sustained during the blaze and another for a heart-related medical emergency.

The house is expected to be a total loss.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
