DORAL, Fla. – A car dealer is facing a felony charge after police accused him of threatening to set fire to a Doral insurance store and shooting his employees on a $202.40 charge he said seemed upset.
Insurance exchange employees at an office park on Northwest 17th Street called police Wednesday to report 61-year-old Fausto Guante, who owns Alma Car Sales on Northwest 79th Street in northwest Miami-Dade, according to an arrest report Called on a taped line the day before and told an employee on the charges “that he will show up to the shop and set the building on fire”.
“After declaring he would set the building on fire, he would (he said) shoot two or three people,” a Doral police detective wrote in the report.
Police said they traced Guante’s phone number and went to the dealer Thursday.
The investigator wrote that when he asked Guante why he showed up there, Guante replied by saying “the insurance problem.”
According to the report, Guante appeared to have nothing further to say after the detective took him to police headquarters for further questioning. Guante invoked his right to an attorney.
Police took him to Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
Guante faces charges of making a written or electronic threat of death, assault, mass shooting or an act of terrorism — a second-degree felony.
