Mercedes’ withdrawal from Kingspan sponsorship causes controversy and unfair criticism of Lewis Hamilton

Mercedes ended its four-year contract with Kingspan a week after announcing this after receiving a huge backlash. The formal termination agreement will be announced on Wednesday.

Last week, Mercedes announced their partnership with Irish company Kingspan for a four-year sponsorship deal worth four million euros a year. The Brixworth-based team and Lewis Hamilton in particular received backlash from all sides.

The reason for the return shot From many different people is the tragedy of 2017, where 72 people were killed in a fire in Grenfell Tower, which used insulation from Kingspan. Survivors, victims’ families, fans and politicians urged the team to withdraw the decision.

Now, Mercedes has decided to terminate the lucrative sponsorship deal amid a wave of public outcry.

It is reported that the decision to withdraw the notice of the agreement was a joint decision of Mercedes owners Toto Wolff and Kingspan.

Both realized that the deal was inappropriate due to the ongoing investigation into the Irish company in relation to the Grenfell Tower incident.

Attacks on Hamilton for the deal are unnecessary

Some news outlets have questioned why Lewis Hamilton has been linked seven times with the tainted company. Some even put the whole thing on Briton.

While it is true that Lewis Hamilton has nothing to do with the sponsorship, the seven-time world champion is seen by many as a scapegoat. Hamilton was very clear when asked about the controversial move back to Saudi Arabia.

Hamilton said at the press conference before the Saudi Arabian GP.

“Unfortunately, my name is attached to it because it’s on my car but whether that remains or not, we’ll see.”

A section of society in particular despises the ‘sober’ narrative that riders such as Lewis Hamilton in particular take the opportunity to attack the champion and denounce his other endeavors.

This is not the first time Britons have been attacked and it probably won’t be the last. As long as Hamilton continues to be active and fight inequality, a section of society will always pursue him. At least now Hamilton won’t have to worry about the name Kingspan on his car as he heads into the Abu Dhabi GP with the same score as his eponymous rival Max Verstappen.
