Meghan Markle has spoken openly about the lasting effects of the Queen’s death.

In an interview with Variety, the Duchess praised the “warmth” she experienced as she and Prince Harry began their relationship.

Meghan also paid tribute to the “shining example” of female leadership the Queen left in her legacy.

She told Variety: “There was so much love and support. I’m really thankful that I could be with my husband to support him, especially during this time.

“What’s so beautiful is looking at the legacy his grandmother was able to leave on so many fronts.

“In terms of female leadership, she’s certainly the most shining example of what that looks like. I feel deep gratitude for spending time with her and getting to know her.”

Meghan added that she feels “fortunate” to have received a warm welcome from the Queen on her first experience of royal engagements.

In the future, she hopes to “build” on various philanthropic projects that, through the couple, can continue the Queen’s legacy.

In the interview, Meghan also addressed Harry’s reaction since his grandmother’s death.

She added, “It’s been a complicated time, but my husband, always the optimist, said, ‘Now she’s reunited with her husband.’

Meghan had stayed by Harry’s side during the royal engagements following the Queen’s death.

The couple’s “show of solidarity” alongside William and Kate at Windsor Castle was later followed by positive news about their relationship with King Charles.

Sources revealed he had been happy with the talks he had with the couple, while the family reunited in grief over the Queen’s funeral.

In a subtle nod to the late monarch, Meghan wore a set of simple diamond and pearl earrings given to her by the Queen in 2018.

The new king reportedly later told people close to him that he saw “tremendous glimmers of hope” about restoring relations with his son and daughter-in-law.
