Meghan Markle reaches out to estranged father after suffering massive stroke

Meghan Markle’s father Thomas left hospital last night, five days after suffering a massive stroke ahead of his trip to the UK for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The Duchess of Sussex is understood to have reached out to the retired Hollywood lighting director, with whom she reportedly severed ties after their 2018 wedding.

Meghan was due to fly to London for the royal celebrations alongside Prince Harry and their two children, Archie and Lilibeth.

However, it’s unclear if she planned to meet her estranged father to end their four-year feud.

“Despite her estrangement, Meghan is concerned,” an insider told The Mirror.

“She wants to know if there is a way to contact her father privately without other family members knowing about it or having to interfere.”

According to a source, she is also concerned she would have to communicate with her half-siblings Thomas Jr., 55, and Samantha, 57, who have filed a defamation lawsuit against them.

“Meghan is unable to contact her half-siblings as she believes they have plans of their own,” they added.

If Mr Markle’s condition had deteriorated, her presence at the anniversary party could have been questioned.

The 77-year-old fell ill Monday and was taken to a hospital near his home in Rosarito, Mexico, before being transferred to a medical facility in San Diego, California.

He can only speak a few words and faces an “uphill battle” to regain his ability to speak.

After being discharged yesterday, Mr Markle said he felt “very grateful” and “happy” to be alive.

“I want to thank everyone, especially the wonderful doctors and nurses who saved my life,” he wrote on a plaque. “They are angels.

“I was deeply moved by loving messages I received from around the world. The people were so nice.’

He also paid his respects to the Queen, wishing her a happy anniversary and “many more years to come”.
