MBTA: Bus Shuttles to Replace Green Line D Branch Service – Boston News, Weather, Sports

BOSTON (WHDH) — Bus shuttles announced by MBTA will replace service on the Green Line D Branch later this month, as is Orange Line service due to resume Monday after weeks of renovations.

Bus shuttles are scheduled to replace service for the Green Line’s D branch from September 24 to October 30. The shuttles do not stop at Beaconsfield station as the narrow streets near the station mean that the shuttles cannot safely stop there. MBTA recommends drivers to either use the C branch off Dean Road or, as an alternative, use the shuttle from the Reservoir station.

MBTA general manager Steve Poftak told reporters Tuesday that 82% of the work planned on the Orange Line has been completed, adding that more partial shutdowns are imminent and this is the new normal for the T.

“Only five days left, we’re in a great position to finish strong and on time,” said Poftak. “That’s where we want to start. Part of the FTA special policy on track maintenance directs us to get and stay on top of this and we are committed to doing so.”

MBTA said crews will work on track replacement while shuttles replace Green Line D Branch service.

Poftak said this is all a work in progress. “We can’t do all this work overnight in a tight window,” he said. “We need to make some more significant investments, and that means better access to the tracks, doesn’t necessarily mean diversions of this magnitude.”

The T has 64 new Orange Line cars ready to run, meaning drivers will have a more than 50 per cent chance of driving one once operations resume.
