Pochettino remains in charge of Paris Saint-Germain but after another disappointing campaign in the Champions League, he is expected to move in the summer.
PSG’s elimination at the hands of Real Madrid in the last 16 stages didn’t go down well in Paris and despite Pochettino galloping to the Ligue 1 title, he’s unlikely to stay in his job.
The former Tottenham manager was heavily linked with the job at Manchester United but now that Erik ten Hag is, the Argentine will next be looking elsewhere for employment.
French publication L’Equipe report that Athletic Bilbao could be his next destination, with the Basque side also likely to change coaches at the end of the season.
Current boss Marcelino is out of contract at the end of the current season and with a European exit looking unlikely a new deal is unlikely.
Athletic Bilbao are following Pochettino’s situation in Paris and would be ready to take a step if he indeed leaves Paris as expected.
Pochettino began his managerial career in Spain in 2009, spending two years at Espanyol before moving to Southampton and then Spurs.
Zinedine Zidane looks the most likely to succeed him at PSG, with French Football Federation (FFF) president Noel Le Graet even hinting at the move.
Asked about replacing Didier Deschamps as France manager, Le Graet told L’Equipe: “We’ll see what happens; Zidane could take on PSG, you have to be free for the French team.
“But today we will do everything we can to give Didier the best possible conditions to win this World Cup.”
