Thomas Tuchel has identified the Netherlands international as his man of choice to fill the gaping hole in Chelsea’s defense following the departures of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.
The 22-year-old joined Juventus in 2019 for a fee of around £75m after guiding Ajax to the semi-finals of the Champions League during a two-year spell as club captain.
But de Ligt’s shares have plummeted during his time in Turin and the Serie A giants are open to selling.
Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly is looking to kickstart his era at the club with a series of statement signings and the Mail claim Chelsea will test Juventus’ resolve with a £65m bid for De Ligt this week.
The Dutchman is said to be keen on moving to west London and personal terms would not be an issue.
Juventus want to get back the £75m they paid for De Ligt but they could sell for less given their interest in Napoli ace Kalidou Koulibaly.
Chelsea are hoping to complete the £45m signing of Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling, while they have not given up hope of persuading Raphinha to join despite interest from Barcelona.
