Matt Fitzpatrick becomes the first Englishman to win the US Open since 2013 Soccer

Matt Fitzpatrick has become the first Englishman in nine years to win the US Open after a thrilling battle in the finals with world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and Will Zalatoris.
The 27-year-old ended up with a Six Under at the country club, securing the first major trophy of his career. His last round included five birdies with three bogeys.
Choosing his shots came on the 18th with a brilliant performance from a difficult bunker position that landed on the green.
“It’s what you dream of as an adult,” Fitzpatrick said.
“It’s something I’ve worked so hard for for so long. I have to admit to myself: I was so patient today.
‘I said yes [caddie] billy [Foster], if I can hit 18 greens today, I’d like to think I have a good chance. I’m almost there. I just played so solidly all day.
The 27-year-old was also congratulated on the 18th green by Rory McIlroy, who won the 2011 US Open.
McIlroy told Fitzpatrick, “All the work is paying off. I’m so happy for you.’
