Massachusetts: Mother charged with murder after her two children were found dead and their infant taken to the hospital

A mother has been charged with murder after two young children were killed in an “unimaginable” tragedy that also left her seven-month-old baby hospitalized, authorities said.
The gruesome scene was discovered in Duxbury, a small affluent town north of Plymouth, Massachusetts and about 34 miles south of Boston.
Just after 6 p.m. Tuesday night, police received an 911 call from a man reporting that his wife had attempted suicide by jumping out the window of their home.
The woman was found by Duxbury Police and Fire Brigade, who took her to a local hospital for treatment. She was later identified as Lindsay Clancy, 32.
“First responders subsequently found three unconscious children under the age of five with obvious signs of trauma,” Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz told reporters at the scene.
Two of the children, a five-year-old girl and a three-year-old boy, were taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth, where they were pronounced dead. They were later identified as Cora Clancy and Dawson Clancy.
“For now, it appears the children were strangled,” Cruz said.
At around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Cruz announced that Lindsay Clancy would be charged with the murder of the two children. Her injuries are still being treated.
“As soon as possible we will indict her on the two counts of murder in the deaths of her children.”
Another child, a seven-month-old boy, was flown by helicopter to a hospital for treatment.
Cruz later confirmed the woman is a suspect in the inquest into the children’s deaths, but thanked Duxbury police and firefighters for being quick to respond to the scene.
“I would like to further commend the professionalism and work of the Duxbury and Massachusetts State Police first responders,” the district attorney said. “I’m sure many of you will not forget what you saw last night and I think we should all be grateful to the men and women who donned a uniform to do this difficult and challenging job.”
According to dispatcher communications received from the Boston Globe, the woman jumped out of the top window of the house.
“She is conscious from a fall of over 20 feet,” a first responder said.
“This is an unimaginable, senseless tragedy,” Cruz said. “We want people here in the Duxbury area to understand that this didn’t happen by accident.” He confirmed that despite this, there is no ongoing threat to the community.
A coroner is currently working to determine the cause of death of the two children.
