ST. LOUIS – The CDC reports COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations are on the rise in the United States as summer approaches. In response, some businesses in the St. Louis area are considering masking and other options to once again slow the spread of the virus.
A mask requirement has returned for employees and vendors at Schnucks regardless of their COVID-19 vaccination status, one said Update from the company. In addition, customers are strongly advised to wear a mask when shopping for groceries in person.
Schnucks has posted signage at dozens of locations, including stores in the St. Louis area, urging customers to wear a face covering, per CDC guidelines. Schnucks will continue to offer customers free face masks at all locations.
Last week, a task force found that the St. Louis metro area was seeing a spike in COVID-19 infections that doctors weren’t expecting. While the region doesn’t face a threat similar to the winter Omicron wave, the virus has been spreading in St. Louis at a rate five times faster than it was six weeks ago.
