Marvel Wants Reddit to Debunk Who Leaked Ant-Man Dialogue

According to court documents, Disney’s Marvel Studios is trying to force Reddit and Google to debunk the leaked dialogue for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania a month before its release.
A motion filed Friday in Marvel’s California Northern District Court asked the court to issue subpoenas for “all identifying information” for a Reddit user who posted “then unpublished dialogue” from the film on the subreddit r/ MarvelStudioSpoilers had posted.
A similar request was made by Marvel to Google, where the information was hosted in a Google Doc. The film was released on February 17 and the dialogue was leaked on January 15, according to the documents.
According to the court’s website, the subpoenas were issued on Monday.
The requests come after Marvel filed takedown requests under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) with both Google and Reddit in January. Reddit declined to approve the request.
Google responded to the Jan. 21 DMCA request two days later, saying that the Google document hosting the alleged dialogue was already gone, leaving the company with nothing to do.
According to the court documents, Marvel is requesting “information provided when an offending user set up their Reddit account,” such as their name, address, phone number, email address, and any “IP addresses used by that user.” and for “all other users responsible for posting, editing and/or maintaining the content.”
Since the news of the subpoena request broke, r/MarvelStudioSpoilers went into “Private Community” mode. People who weren’t members before can no longer view the content.
It’s unclear if Reddit will heed the movie franchise giant’s request for the names and contact information of people linked to the script.
Reddit did not respond to a request for comment.
According to TorrentFreak, which previously reported on the leaks, dialogue from the film was displayed on a Portuguese web interface and then translated and posted to Google.
An allegedly archived forum webpage featured a user named “Vision” who claimed to be subtitles for the film that revealed the film’s dialogue. The user warned that the dialogue might not be entirely correct as it went through multiple translations.
“The file was provided to us in another language,” the user wrote, “and we used three different translators to convert it to English. The file does not contain the subtitles of the film in chronological order. So we arranged the first half as best as we could and in the second half we left breaks between sections to break up the different scenes where we think they are.”
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was one of the lowest-rated Marvel films to date, grossing $198 million domestically by its fourth weekend, overtaking the original Ant-Man but lagging behind Ant -Man and the Wasp”. ”
