Marvel Cinematic Universe fans haven’t come a step closer to the time-Wimey, wiggle-wiggle nature of Marvel Avengers: Endgamewith the nature of Gamora, the fate of Black Widow, and the power of the Infinity Gauntlet still up for debate.
Gamora’s unwilling sacrifice to grant Thanos the Soul Stone Avengers: Infinity War It’s all well and good as she gets a chance to return for Endgame with a version of her from the 2014 timeline. But considering Black Widow 2014 makes the sacrifice in Endgame with Time Travel, fans are confused as to why she hasn’t returned from a different timeline.
It’s like this shot of Charlie Day against the red-taped corkboard Always sunny in Philadelphia. The debate started with a simple question posted on the Marvel Studios subreddit, wondering how Gamora and Black Widow died the same way, but only one “returned.”
Discussion on the subreddit has become a cumbersome and highly confusing topic – and in all honesty, you might need your own red string to attach all those moving parts.
The discussion then turned to whether Gamora is still the same Gamora, and developed the conversation into an example that proved crucial to Vision’s character development WandaVision.
If you need a short break to clear your head, now is the time.
In the most brutal of ways, it probably doesn’t matter. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and The Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas Special will both feature Zoe Saldana as Gamora, but figuring out which Gamora of the timeline they will feature may require a rocket scientist.
The good news is that the characters of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are also still learning how multiverse, timelines, and universes work, so we’re not alone as an audience.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is the latest entry in Marvel’s multiverse shenanigans and is currently in theaters.
