Marilyn Monroe’s dress was reportedly damaged after Kim Kardashian wore it
After Kim Kardashian wore Marilyn Monroe’s dress to the Met Gala last month, the Marilyn Monroe Collection claims they allegedly damaged the garment.
This comes after an all-consuming internet debate over the ethics of Kardashian, who wore the famous Jean Louis dress in which she sang “Happy Birthday” to President John F. Kennedy in 1962. The crystal-covered garment was acquired from Ripley’s Believe It or Don’t! in 2016, which Kardashian borrowed the garment for the annual event.
Kardashian also faced significant outrage over her decision to lose weight to wear the dress. she said Fashion She lost 16 pounds to fit in.
However, when the reality TV star took the dress to the Met Gala red carpet, the thorough care that went into ensuring the safety of the dress was well documented. Kardashian only wore the real dress on the red carpet and then changed into a replica afterwards. However, it seems that the precautionary measures were not enough.
Scott Fortner’s Marilyn Monroe Collection, the largest private collection of the late star’s belongings, shared an image on Instagram of the alleged damage done to the dress. The dress appears to be missing some crystals in the hip area.
“Just in case you missed it… Missing crystals and some hanging by a thread,” the account owner captioned the image.
The collection claims the photo of the damage was taken on June 12 by Instagram user @1morrisette at Ripley’s Hollywood location.
“@ripleysbelieveitornot was it worth it?” the caption continues.
The before and after picture was then shared by Pop Crave (@popcrave) on Twitter, where many users were outraged. The tweet received over 16,000 quote tweets and 125,000 likes.
“The people defending Kim are crazy. She didn’t have to wear the dress, especially when she obviously didn’t fit into it, even after starving herself. Now she ruined an incredibly expensive and iconic dress just because she wanted to show it off,” one user wrote in a quoted tweet.
“I hope Marilyn Monroe follows Kim for the rest of her life,” said another.
Others weren’t surprised that the dress was reportedly damaged.
“Well, they put a 60+ year old dress on someone a few modern sizes taller than Marilyn, so yeah that sounds like it,” argued one user.
“What did you expect from,” added another.
