TJ Maxx and other discount retailers are a popular topic on TikTok — from people questioning the quality of the groceries they sell to their hair products, there’s a whiff of doubt among content creators about TJX’s umbrella, the TJ Maxx, Marshalls and HomeGoods are owned.
In the latest video showing what’s on the shelves at their local TJ Maxx, Sergio (@sergiossecretret) shares what he believes is a counterfeit Balmain t-shirt selling for $279.99 (a Balmain Men’s t-shirts retail between about $200 and $700). .
The shirt, Sergio says in the video, had its tags “re-stitched” at the neck and side seam, implying that the garment is a plain T-shirt with Balmain tags sewn in, which was returned to the store became.
“They cut out the tag and sewed it back onto this regular shirt,” says Sergio. “If you look on the inside, you can tell it’s put back in place. Heck, you guys really played the system.”
“You have way too much time on your hands,” he adds in the caption.
His video has been viewed 1.2 million times since it was posted on June 2nd.

“I think that’s any high end brand retail,” wrote one commenter. “I worked at Bloomingdales, we got people trying to do this all the time.”
Others shared previous experiences working for designer brands and wrote that the shirt could potentially be legitimate.
“I worked for a fashion company and we hand sewed on the designer tags/tags because they didn’t want the factories to know the exact specs,” wrote one commenter.
“Balmain tags are (hand) sewn in,” wrote another commenter.
The Daily Dot emailed @sergiossecrets regarding the video and emailed TJ Maxx directly.
