Mann says Austin is one of the worst cities to live as a black person

A black man living in Austin claims that the city is one of the worst big cities a black man has ever been to.

The man, known as Julz (@backyardjulz) on TikTok, posted a video sharing his opinion. As of Wednesday, the video received around 132,000 views on the social media platform.

“I’ll die alone if I keep living in this town…” Julz said in the video’s caption.

The video didn’t shed much light on why Julz thinks black dating in Austin sucks, but viewers seemed to share his opinion.

“I moved to Austin after leaving the state of Texas. WORST DECISION OF MY LIFE! Immediately High Tail 35 back to DFW,” one viewer commented on the video.

“I live here too. I’m leaving as soon as I graduate with a stable career,” commented another user.

Another wrote, “Austin isn’t the town to do anything while black.”

Commenting on his video, Julz cited the 2020 U.S. Census as evidence. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, only 7.8% of Austin’s population was African American or black in 2020.

“Black people are the only ethnic group in Austin that’s shrinking… lol time for me to dip,” Julz wrote in another comment on the video.

Some users urged TikToker to move to other large cities in Texas with higher black populations.

“Come to Houston bro,” said one user.

“Try Galveston,” suggested another user.

The Daily Dot reached out to the creator via a TikTok comment.
