Manhunt underway after pedestrian hit and killed in Fairfield

Police are appealing for people to come forward with information after a man was hit and killed by a driver of a black Honda Accord early Monday morning in Fairfield.

Emergency services were called to Sackville Street just before 6am after a man was seen lying injured on the footpath.

Paramedics from NSW Ambulance treated the man, believed to be in his 50s, for serious head injuries but he later died at the scene.

A crime scene has been set up and a NSW Police spokesman said the victim has yet to be formally identified. Crash Investigation Unit (CIU) officers are investigating how the man sustained his injuries.

Nine messages has reported the man was a 57-year-old father of four who was walking to work at a nearby gas station when he was hit and killed by a green P-Plater that failed to stop at a stop sign .

Police are urging anyone who knows the car or driver, or anyone who was driving down Sackville Street at around 5.45am, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
