Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo is out of Saturday’s Premier League game against Leicester City due to illness.

The 37-year-old did not check in with the rest of the squad at The Lowry Hotel last night.

The Athletic report that Ronaldo will miss the crucial meeting with the Foxes as United look to gain ground on Arsenal and Tottenham in the race for the top four.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner helped Portugal qualify for the 2022 World Cup during the international break and featured in both play-off victories against Turkey and North Macedonia.

Before the international break, Ronaldo scored a hat-trick against Tottenham to give United a 3-2 win over Tottenham.

Ralf Rangnick’s side currently sit sixth in the Premier League, four points behind fourth-placed Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo’s Portuguese team-mate Bruno Fernandes has signed a new contract that will keep him at Old Trafford until 2026, with an option for a further year.

After the contract extension, Fernandes said: “From the moment I joined Manchester United I have had a special relationship with the club and our amazing fans.

“I grew up with this team and dreamed of one day getting the chance to play here. That dream is now a reality and an honor.

“Even after two years it still feels great to be able to perform at Old Trafford, hear the fans sing my song and score in front of the Stretford End. It’s a true privilege to wear this jersey and fight for our incredible club.

“There is so much more I want to achieve here and I know the same goes for the rest of the squad and staff. Above all, we want to give the fans the success they deserve.

“We have shared some great moments over the past few years but the best is yet to come from me and this team.”
