The Red Devils are keen to add new players to their squad this month, particularly in their attacking line after Christian Eriksen led the season at the helm with a defeat by Brighton.
United decided that former Stoke striker Marko Arnautovic was the man to solve the problem but Bologna turned down an offer for the Austrian.
Now the Mirror are reporting that they are considering an offer for Sarr, a player they almost signed two years ago and who has long been linked with a move to a bigger club than the Hornets.
Sarr, just 24, joined Vicarage Road from Rennes in 2019 and impressed in his debut Premier League season.
As Watford was relegated to the Championship he was linked with the likes of United and Liverpool but stayed with the Hornets and scored 13 league goals as they immediately returned to the top flight.
They’ve been relegated and Sarr quickly regained prominence in the Championship, scoring from his own half against West Brom on Monday night.
In an interview last year, former Watford technical director Filippo Giraldi claimed United are close to reaching an agreement for the Senegalese international in 2020.
“We couldn’t come to an agreement. And I think Ismaila is very young, he will come for sure.
“He probably missed an opportunity but I think also for his football to stay here and get 10 goals and 10 assists is what decides the league.”
Sarr cost Watford around £27m in 2019 and has two years left on his contract at Vicarage Road, so even in the Championship the Hornets would be hoping to at least recoup what they paid for the Senegalese star.
