Victor Lindelof was heavily criticized by Dutch legend Ruud Gullit for his role in Manchester United’s humiliating 4-0 loss to Brighton.
The Red Devils slumped to an embarrassing defeat on the south coast, conceding four or more goals for the sixth time this season.
The defeat means United will end the season with the lowest record ever in the Premier League era
United’s miserable day began with Moisés Caicedo opening the scoring for Brighton which put the Seagulls on their way to an overwhelming victory.
But highlights showed that the shot could easily have been blocked and that Lindelof – playing Harry Maguire in place of skipper – tried to stop the shot with his hands behind his back and with his legs bizarrely spread.
And former Chelsea boss Gullit says it’s one of the strangest things he’s ever seen on a football pitch.
“Let’s look at how Lindelof tried to block that shot, I’ve honestly never seen that before,” Gullit said.
“Look at him, he spreads his legs wide. What is he trying to do?
“He says: ‘I’ll make it easier for you, do it!’ Terrible.. just terrible.’
United’s defeat means the club could miss out on Europa League football.
The Red Devils are three points clear of West Ham but the Hammers have a game in hand and a superior goal difference.
Should they win their last two games, they will take sixth place from Ralf Rangnick’s team.
