The 30-year-old Dane is available on a free transfer this summer after his six-month deal with Brentford expired.
The Red Devils are reportedly interested in the former Tottenham star as they seek to inject creativity into their midfield and have been impressed by his performances for the Bees last season.
According to the Daily Mail, Eriksen has offers from outside England but would rather play in the Premier League next season.
Eriksen spent over six seasons at Spurs before joining Inter Milan and played a key role in the rise of the north London club under Mauricio Pochettino.
During his time at Spurs he made over 200 appearances in the Premier League and scored 51 goals.
It is believed that previous United managers including Louis van Gaal and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer tried to sign the player when they were in charge at Old Trafford.
He would make a smart signing for Erik ten Hag, with the Dutchman tight in midfield following the departures of Juan Mata, Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic.
It is reported that the club’s negotiations for Eriksen won’t affect their deal to try to sign Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong.
Eriksen spoke about his future this week, saying via Bold.dk: “Such a decision involves many criteria and many different things. Sometimes football goes fast, sometimes a little slower.
“You can’t control it yourself. I have to make the best decision and not rush things.
“My phone stays on, but I also know my agent well enough to know that he only calls when there’s something exciting.”
