This is the harrowing moment a postman was caught on camera “kicking” a small family dog after it allegedly pinched him.

Footage from a doorbell camera showed the Royal Mail worker delivering a parcel to the Greater Manchester home when the animal ran towards the open door.

Moments later, the man suddenly screams and appears to kick the dog, which stumbles across the driveway.

The animal then gets up and runs away while the postman leaves the property.

After the incident, the young girl who answered the door for the postman was in tears, her mother said.

“My dog is afraid to go to the door and when the doorbell rings he wets himself and is visibly shaking,” the mother said, adding that she had made a formal complaint to the Royal Mail.

“My daughter opened the door for delivery. I was outside hanging up the dishes and she ran in and told me what had happened.

“My daughter was very upset. She cried her eyes out and she is not an emotional child.

It is understood the postman told his employers it was not a “deliberate kick”. The animal nibbled him and that was a reflex reaction.

In a letter to the Manchester Evening News, Royal Mail apologized to the family for the uproar it caused.

However, the company pointed out that about 33 workers are attacked by dogs every week, suffering minor bites but also life-changing injuries.

“We would like to once again express our regrets and apologize once again for the upset, particularly with your young daughter,” the letter reads.

“Royal Mail staff are family people with cats, dogs and other pets and we really appreciate what a big part of a home they are.

“We work closely with our health and safety team to ensure our employees are aware of the dangers of free-roaming animals.” has contacted Royal Mail for further comments.
