According to Sportsmail, centre-backs Eric Bailly, Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe and full-backs Alex Telles and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are not in Ten Hag’s plans and United will be listening to offers for the quintet.
United have strengthened their defense this summer, bringing in Lisandro Martinez from Ajax and Tyrell Malacia from PSV, but now have too many defenders and could use all the funds raised to make more signings before the window closes on September 1.
However, it remains to be seen which of the five players will actually leave Old Trafford by then.
Bailly, Jones and Tuanzebe have been outcasts at United for some time and the arrival of Martinez has pushed them further down the pecking order as Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof are all ready to stay at the club.
Signed from Jose Mourinho back in 2016, Bailly has been linked with a reunion with the Portuguese coach at Roma, with AC Milan, Fulham and Sevilla also interested in the 28-year-old whose time in England has been severely hampered by injuries.
Jones, another player who struggled with injuries during his 11-year tenure at Manchester, is in early talks to link up with former team-mate Wayne Rooney, who is now the boss of MLS side DC United.
Academy graduate Tuanzebe has now played just 19 Premier League games for the Red Devils and at 24 it seems unlikely he will ever break into the first team properly with newly promoted Bournemouth linked.
With Malacia set to be Luke Shaw’s backup, Telles is expected to leave and Sevilla are said to be ready to pay £15million for the left-back, the same price United Porto paid for the Brazilian two years ago.
Wan-Bissaka has already been linked with a Crystal Palace return this summer, albeit on loan, and United are unlikely to ever recoup the £50m they spent on the 24-year-old in 2019.
However, Ten Hag may have to reconsider selling him that window as youngster Ethan Laird, who will join Watford on loan, Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot will be the only senior right-backs remaining at the club.
