Manchester United have offered Christian Eriksen a contract after identifying the Dane as a possible alternative to Frenkie de Jong.

Eriksen will become a free agent when his contract with Brentford expires on June 30.

While the Bees are keen to keep him in west London, other clubs have expressed interest and United have made an offer to bring him to Old Trafford, according to The Athletic.

United have made Barcelona midfielder de Jong their priority transfer target, while Erik ten Hag is keen on a Manchester reunion with his former Ajax star.

De Jong is understood to be open to the move but United are yet to agree a fee with Barcelona with the two clubs reportedly still a long way from an agreement.

Barcelona are said to be demanding €100m for the 25-year-old. United have revealed they are ready to move on to other targets, with Eriksen being one of those under consideration.

Eriksen joined Brentford in January and played a key role as Thomas Frank’s side sealed a 13th place in their first season in the Premier League.

The 30-year-old has also been linked with a return to Tottenham after hinting he would prefer to join a club competing in the Champions League next season.

Speaking to Viaplay, Eriksen said: “I have different offers and options that we look at and then we make a decision.

“I would like to play Champions League football again. I know how fun it is, but it’s not necessarily for me.”
