Manchester United are planning a move for Feyenoord full-back Tyrell Malacia but would like to secure a deal for Frenkie de Jong before moving on to other targets.

Lyon are currently leading the race to sign the 22-year-old and have already seen two offers rejected, according to De Telegraaf.

Feyenoord are in no rush to agree a deal with the Dutch publication, who report that Manchester United and Newcastle United both consider Malacia an “important reinforcement”.

The Dutch side are willing to wait and are targeting a transfer fee of around €15m-20m (£12m-17m) for their left-back.

While United are keen to bring him to Old Trafford, the report adds their focus is currently on getting a deal over the line for De Jong.

United are aware they run a risk of missing out on Malacia but ten Hag’s absolute priority is to ensure De Jong is part of his team next season.

Latest reports suggest United are ready to make their second official offer for De Jong after an opening offer of around £51m plus add-ons was rejected.

Barcelona are reportedly asking more than £73m for the Dutchman – the fee they paid Ajax for the midfielder three years ago.

Ten Hag has made de Jong his top priority this summer and is looking to rebuild United’s midfield around the 25-year-old.

United are also hoping to sign Christian Eriksen, who will become a free agent next month.

Earlier this month, Malacia hinted he was ready for a big move should it happen this summer.

Speaking to Dutch broadcaster RTV, he said: “I’m definitely ready for the next step.

“But first I want to focus on the Orange team and play here. I feel like everything happens for a reason and everything is written.

“When it’s the right time, it’s the right time. I don’t really think about it, it’s in the back of my mind. But I don’t want to comment on that.’
