Paul Pogba’s departure from Manchester United has ‘left a bad taste in the mouth’, according to former player and pundit Gary Neville.

The French international midfielder and world champion has taken several hits at United as his contract expires on June 30 and he moves closer to a return to Juventus in Italy after a poor second spell in England.

Pogba re-signed with Man United in 2016 for what was then a world-record deal worth £89million – and has faced major problems – but now wants to prove they made a “mistake” by not renewing his contract.

“My thought process is to show Manchester [United] that they made a mistake waiting to give me a contract,” the 29-year-old said in his new documentary, titled The Pogmentary.

“And to show other clubs that Manchester made a mistake in not offering me a contract.”

Pogba has also complained that United have offered him “nothing” despite the club putting at least two deals on the table worth more than his current £290,000-a-week contract, has spoken of his need to ” to feel loved” and admitted that “[people] can bring you down’.

In response to these various remarks, Neville said on TikTok: “To be honest, Pogba’s comments don’t bother me.

“I think once a player is gone they can say what they want. Fine, no problem. But I don’t think he’s performed well in the last six years.

“Neither do I think the club have performed well with him or treated him well. It was a partnership that, to be fair, failed on both sides, so it has to be said.

“There is no winner if after six years a player leaves with the money spent and has won very little.

“The player leaves unhappy and the club is unhappy with it too. It leaves a bad taste in the mouth because it happened the second time.

“They wish him all the best for the future at Juventus.”

During his second tenure at Old Trafford, Pogba helped Manchester United win the Europa League and Carabao Cup in 2016-17 in his 266 games over six years, scoring 39 goals.
