Man Utd face obstacle in convincing Christian Eriksen to join | Soccer

The Red Devils have emerged as real contenders for the Denmark international, who is available on a free transfer at the end of the month after deciding to leave Brentford.

Eriksen has a multitude of suitors across Europe, having impressed enormously since his return to football, with only Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne having had more chances since his Brentford debut.

However, United must overcome a significant obstacle to convince the playmaker to move to Old Trafford, as football.london report that Eriksen is keen to remain in London.

The former Inter Milan star lived in London for six and a half years while at Tottenham before moving back to the capital to join Brentford.

Spurs have also sought to bring Eriksen back to the club and are quietly confident of going through with the deal, with the midfielder wary of uprooting his young family.

Eriksen is also keen to play Champions League football – something United cannot offer – while Spurs are hoping the chance to be reunited with Antonio Conte could be a huge draw.

The midfielder initially took some time to adjust to the Italian’s style of play at Inter but became a key factor in winning the title.

With Denmark’s Nations League games all over now, Eriksen is expected to take some time to review all the offers he’s received before deciding on his next move before the end of the month.

Interestingly, when rumors about United’s interest in Eriksen initially surfaced, it was hinted that he would be set up as an alternative to Frenkie de Jong should Barcelona fail to agree a transfer fee for the Dutchman.

However, it seems Ten Hag wants both Eriksen and De Jong and feels the side have lacked creativity and players who can get to the ball and dictate procedure.
