United delivered another sad performance over the weekend as they were beaten 4-0 by Brighton on Saturday.
The result means United will now register their lowest score in Premier League history, while they also face the prospect of missing out on European football altogether.
United tried to lighten the mood of the fans on Monday by providing an update on Ten Hag’s situation at Ajax as their new manager is now close to winning his third Eredivisie title with the Dutch club.
But United’s post on Twitter drew criticism from fans, who called the club “embarrassing” and “shameless” over their update on Ajax’s title race.
United have since deleted the post after fans were quick to direct their anger at the club.
One United fan wrote: “Shameless. Disrespect to fans. What made you think this is a good story?’
Another United supporter replied: “State of my club! Piggyback on another team’s success. Tweet is now deleted.’
“TF is wrong with you guys, how is the Ajax business our business? This is so embarrassing,” asked a United fan.
Another United fan wrote: “This has to be one of the most embarrassing tweets ever. Do not be ashamed.”
“This is absolutely embarrassing… no shame. Well done Ajax but this is embarrassing!’ replied another United supporter.
Following United’s recent humiliation against Brighton, Ralf Rangnick has said he expects Ten Hag’s tenure at Old Trafford to start with at least six signings.
“In the end, football is pretty simple, you just have to win games,” said Rangnick.
“In order to achieve that, it is obvious that with some players whose contracts are expiring, we need a number of new players.
“There is already something like a number of players who are really top players for this club but like I said we need all the other areas.
“I think there will be six or eight new players.
“They should be top players to strengthen the quality of the squad.”
