Man Utd delay decision on young star loan until after preseason | Soccer

Erik ten Hag will decide if James Garner will be a part of him Manchester United squad after assessing the midfielder last season.
Garner, 21, has been on loan at Forest for the last two seasons and, after more than two decades outside the Premier League, played a key role in their promotion campaign last season.
Steve Cooper is keen to re-sign the midfielder and the club are optimistic they will be front of the queue should his parent club allow him back on loan.
United are desperately short of options in the middle of the park with Scott McTominay, Fred and 19-year-old Hannibal Mejbri their only options following the departures of Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic.
Garner will be part of United’s pre-season campaign, which will include a tour of Bangkok, Thailand and Australia. Erik ten Hag will use this period to decide whether Garner will be part of his plans for the 2022-23 season.
That means Forest will have to await a decision from United and may have to shelve plans for alternative destinations.
United have made bolstering their midfield options a priority this summer, with Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong his first-choice target.
The club are also considering a bid for N’Golo Kante, with Chelsea ready to hear offers for the world champions.
Ten Hag’s former Ajax player Edson Alvarez is also reportedly being considered as an option, while Ruben Neves remains heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford.
