Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag and Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp are keeping tabs on Mason Mount’s contract situation at Chelsea and could reportedly make moves for the England star.

Mount has become one of Chelsea’s most important players in recent years, making 160 appearances for his youth club and being voted Men’s Player of the Year for two consecutive seasons.

Despite his influence at Stamford Bridge, Mount is one of the lowest paid players at Stamford Bridge and new owner Todd Boehly is believed to be keen to offer him improved terms.

Talks of a new deal have stalled during the protracted takeover but Boehly sees Mount as a key player in the club’s future and wants to tie him to a new long-term deal.

According to The Sun, Manchester United and Liverpool are among the clubs keeping an eye on developments at Chelsea, with Ten Hag notably an admirer of England international Mount.

Ten Hag is said to have been a fan of Mount since the midfielder enjoyed a successful loan spell at Dutch club Vitesse in 2017-18, with United already informing the player’s representatives that they would be interested in a deal.

Ten Hag, who left Eredivisie champions Ajax to take over at Old Trafford on a three-year deal, is looking to bring in around six signings this summer to help the Premier League giants fight for big trophies.

United would face significant competition for Mount’s signature, however, with Liverpool and Manchester City making discreet requests for the Chelsea academy graduate and La Liga champions Barcelona targeting a move.

Mount – who scored 13 goals and provided 13 assists in 50 games for Chelsea last season – was one of the first players to react to Boehly’s acquisition.

“It is an exciting time now as the owners are being confirmed today. It’s going to be exciting going forward,” Mount said Sky Sports.

»The era under Roman [Abramovich] was awesome, now we are happy. It’s exciting stuff, I can’t wait to get back to it.

Mount also said his team-mates aim to close the gap on Manchester City and Liverpool next season following Chelsea’s third-place finish in the Premier League.

“We were obviously in and around him [top of Premier League] up to about halfway,” he added. “Disappointed that we fell off a bit.

“Of course that’s the goal for next season, we want to close the gap, be up there.”
