Man steals GameStop display and tries to sell it back to them

TikToker MarNae is no stranger to bizarre happenings at her former employer GameStop and frequently shares such stories with her followers.

In a video that went viral, MarNae (@nightskingurl) added a comment asking for more stories, claiming a man once stole a GameStop display only to turn around and try to sell it back to the store.

“Sometimes I think half of this shit isn’t real, but I’m still friends with a few people who work at this particular GameStop,” she wrote in the caption.

MarNae introduces the video by saying, “The dumbest shit has always happened on that particular GameStop.”

She says the man only came in for a few minutes, asked a few questions and then left. Her boss then asked if the Sony representative had come as the PlayStation Vita’s display was missing.

“We look at the CCTV camera and sure enough, the guy literally steals the Vita display,” she says.

Referring to the creator not hearing or seeing anything, MarNae explains with a hand-drawn map that other displays were blocking her view of the Vita display. After the workers filed a police report, the man who stole the display walked in.

“Me, my manager, and the cop look at each other like, ‘Did that motherfucker really just walk in here?'” she says. “The guy completely ignores the cop, ignores my boss, seems to ignore the fact that he spoke to me earlier in the day, puts the Playstation Vita in front of me and says, ‘I want to sell this.'”

“It was surreal,” she adds.

After turning on the system, MarNae said she was able to tell it was the stolen Display Vita because the demo games were already loaded on the device. She says she told the man she couldn’t take it and he asked why.

“The cop says ‘because you stole it,'” she continues. “Then the guy finally seems to see the six-foot-tall black man standing at the checkout, and then it dawns on him very slowly – that’s a cop.”

According to MarNae, the man tried to flee, was attacked and then arrested.

Her video has received over 120,000 views since it was shared on August 2nd. In the comments, viewers were shocked at the man’s audacity to return to the same store.

“There is boldness. Then there’s this guy,” commented one user.

“Damn, at least go to another GameStop!” said another.

“I would die laughing because there is no way [I’d believe] I actually see that,” shared a third user.

Additionally, in a comment, MarNae clarified how the man stole the display.

“I forgot to say that, but the guy pulled out the vita because he had one of those little L-wrenches,” she explained. “The things didn’t have an alarm, so it wouldn’t have made any noise when opened.”

In reply to a comment, the creator added that this incident happened years ago when she was working at GameStop.

The Daily Dot contacted MarNae via TikTok comment and Instagram messages.
