Man shot, killed by Bluffdale police after allegedly choking teenage boy

A man was shot dead by police in Bluffdale on Saturday afternoon after allegedly choking a teenager and then confronting officers with a gun.

Police were called to the Beacon Hill apartment complex around 11:45 a.m. when a 17-year-old boy reported the suspect had choked him, FOX 13 reported.

The suspect, a 31-year-old man whose name has not been released, left the area after the alleged attack. The relationship between the victim and the suspect was not immediately available.

The man then returned to the scene an hour later and “confronted officers with a gun,” according to the Saratoga Springs Police Department, which is handling public information about the incident.

Officers tried using “less lethal” methods, but the man continued to “confront” them. An officer then shot the man. It was not disclosed what type of weapon the suspect was carrying.

First responders at the scene tried life-saving measures, but the man eventually died.

The incident is now subject to the Salt Lake County Official-Involved Critical Incident protocol. A team of law enforcement officers from outside agencies within the county will conduct a full investigation.

The suspect’s name was not released, but officials said he had a history of gun-related offences. Man shot, killed by Bluffdale police after allegedly choking teenage boy
