A man has been arrested after seven people were stabbed to death in a violent attack outside a nightclub.

Police were called to the incident in Bodmin, Cornwall at around 3.15am this morning.

Officials said a man in his 30s was found at the scene with stab wounds and was pronounced dead.

At least seven other men and women were taken to hospital with stab wounds, police said.

The police have arrested a 24-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder and dangerous bodily harm.

Detective Inspector Ilona Rosson of the Major Crime Investigation Team said: “Following an incident in Bodmin last night, a man in his 30s has been confirmed dead and officers are supporting his next of kin.

“We are currently treating this as an isolated matter and are not seeking anyone in connection with this incident.

“This is an active and active police investigation and I would urge people not to speculate on social media but if you have any information that might help us please report it.”

East Cornwall Local Policing Superintendent Rob Youngman said: “This inquiry is still at an early stage and the public can expect an increased police presence around Bodmin today while the investigation is ongoing.

“Understandably, this incident will have an impact on the local community and our thoughts are with the families of the victims.

“The cordons will remain in place today while officers gather information and evidence on the ground.

“Anyone who has not yet been approached by officers and has information that may assist our investigation, please contact us.

“This could include all relevant dashcam, doorbell and CCTV footage from the Victoria Square area and along Castle Canyke Road.”

A The Devon and Cornwall Police Spokesman said: “Police were called to the Victoria Square area of ​​Castle Canyke Road at 3.15am on Sunday 30 April after a serious altercation was reported.

“It was further reported that someone was in possession of a knife and that several people suffered suspected stab wounds.

“A man in his 30s was confirmed deceased at the scene.

“His next of kin have been informed and are being assisted by specialized officials.

“At least seven other men and women were injured and taken to hospital for treatment.

“None is currently being treated as life-threatening.

“A 24-year-old man from Bodmin has been arrested on suspicion of murder, attempted murder and intentional aggravated assault.

“He remains in police custody at this time.”
