Man found in hidden room in Missouri wanted in Illinois missing woman case

BELLFLOWER, Mo. – The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office arrested a wanted man after a stalemate on Thursday. Charles L. Story, 40, is currently in prison on bonds from two active Illinois state warrants with a total of $90,000 in bonds.

Police sought out Story to question him about the disappearance of Beverly J. Logan. She was reported missing from Belleville, Illinois in January. The police found her made it to Warrenton, Missouri with a male friend. What happened to her after that is unclear.

Story is also wanted in the state of Illinois and has a history of resisting arrests, threatening officers and committing serious bodily harm. The man has three protective orders against him and is registered as a sex offender in Illinois.

A lead led police Thursday to a home on Elm Street in Bellflower, Missouri. Police were given permission to search the home and found Story barricaded in a hidden room. He told them he was armed and injured after being shot in the leg a few days earlier. The wanted man also threatened to shoot anyone who tried to enter the room and then himself.

Story was placed under arrest after a brief hiatus. His gunshot wound was treated and he is currently being held in the Montgomery County Jail.
