Man extradited to Sydney from UK to face domestic violence charges

A British national allegedly leaving a woman with life-threatening injuries in Sydney nearly eight years ago has been extradited to face a 2015 charge.
The 37-year-old was served with a warrant of alleged violence in May 2015, a month after police launched an investigation into his alleged conduct, a police source said.
A 37-year-old British national arrives in Sydney to face domestic violence charges since 2015.
Three months later he was charged with two counts of assault, intentional aggravated assault and intentional aggravated assault.
All charges related to alleged assaults on a 25-year-old woman, which are said to have occurred several times between April and July 2015.
In an alleged incident, the woman was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Some time after the indictment, the man left Australia and returned to Britain. When he failed to appear in court, an arrest warrant was issued for him.

The man arrived at Sydney Airport on Thursday morning.
Almost eight years after his indictment, the man has now returned to Sydney to stand trial after local detectives, assisted by the Australian Federal Police and Attorney General’s Office, traveled to the UK and successfully sought his extradition.
NSW Police have been unable to provide further details on the circumstances in which the man left Australia, where he has since resided, and the reasons for the delay in his return to court.
