Man dies in pursuit by New South Wales police

A man has died in a crash by police in south-west Sydney on Friday morning, causing significant delays for commuters after a main road was closed in both directions.
Both northbound and southbound lanes are closed on Alford Point Road between the Bangor Bypass and the Alfords Point Road exit onto Old Illawarra Road in Menai.

Northbound traffic was diverted onto the Bangor bypass, while southbound traffic was diverted at the Fowler Road exit.
A Traffic and Highway Police officer attempted to stop a tube train on Alfords Point Road in Menai just after 6am.
The driver allegedly failed to stop and police gave chase to the driver.
A short time later, the Ute collided with another vehicle before coming to a stop. The man died at the scene of the accident, while the driver of the other vehicle was uninjured.
The deceased man has not been officially identified.
A crime scene has been identified and is being investigated by the Police Accident Investigation Unit.
