(Salt Lake City Police Department) A man died after being struck by a car at a crosswalk near 1200 West and 600 North and struck a second time by another car on Tuesday, January 31, 2023.

A man was killed in Rose Park early Tuesday after being hit by two different cars.

The man was walking at a crosswalk on 600 North near 1200 West around 8:17 a.m. when a station wagon pulled onto the street and initially hit him, officials said in a release.

The driver of the station wagon then got out to help the injured person, but a second vehicle swerved into the lane and hit both the injured person and another passer-by.

The first man to be hit died at the scene despite life-saving efforts by first responders. The passer-by was treated for life-threatening injuries, police said.

Both drivers are cooperating with police, officials said. The person killed was not immediately identified and officers did not release the names of the two drivers.

The accident is the second traffic-related fatality in Salt Lake City in 2023, after a man was killed in a hit-and-run accident near 700 East and 500 South on Jan. 15.
