Man arrested in stabbing his ex-girlfriend, kidnapping her 4-year-old niece

A man was arrested in Ogden on Saturday after allegedly stabbing his ex-girlfriend and kidnapping her niece in Midvale on Friday night.

A 4-year-old was rescued after a yellow alert was issued Friday night over her alleged kidnapping, FOX 13 reported.

The investigation began around 7:30 p.m. Friday when 20-year-old Jonathan Moises Wuanloxten Hidalgo’s ex-girlfriend called him about a ride in the Tuscany View Drive and Bingham Junction Highway area. Police say he picked up the woman and her 4-year-old niece, then stabbed the woman, pulled her out of the vehicle and left her on the side of the road as he drove away.

The 20-year-old woman was still in critical condition in hospital as of Saturday morning.

According to Salt Lake County Sheriff Rosie Rivera, her 4-year-old niece was still in the car when Hidalgo drove away. An amber alert was then issued at around 2110

Shortly after the alarm was raised, a woman called police and said she found the girl on the side of the road not far from where she was stabbed.

When FOX 13 News reporter Spencer Joseph arrived at the scene, the woman asked for help connecting with police after locating the child. FOX 13 photojournalist Richard Bork captured the moment the girl was taken away by a police officer and safely placed in an SUV.

Rivera said officers found Hidalgo’s vehicle abandoned on the side of I-15 near 3300 South.

“This is a very violent crime,” Rivera said Friday night. “Someone who would just stab someone, leave them on the street, and then drop a child off nearby in the dark in this weather… he needs to be caught.”

Hidalgo was eventually located and arrested Saturday in Ogden, near 24th Street and A Avenue.
