Man accused of murdering PC Sharon Beshenivsky appears at the Old Bailey | UK News

A man extradited from Pakistan will appear at the Old Bailey for the murder of police officer Sharon Beshenivsky nearly 20 years ago.
Piran Ditta Khan, 74, is charged with the November 18, 2005 murder of the 38-year-old.
PC Beshenevsky and a colleague were responding to a robbery at Universal Travel on Morley Street in Bradford and were assaulted upon arrival.
The married mother of three with two stepchildren was a probationer with just nine months of service when she was killed.
Her colleague Pc Teresa Millburn was seriously injured.
Khan appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in central London on Thursday.
The court heard that an arrest warrant was issued for the defendant in Pakistan in 2018 and that he was arrested in 2020.
Khan was returned to the UK and taken into custody at a West Yorkshire police station, where he was charged with killing PC Beshenivsky.
In addition to the murder charge, Khan faces charges of robbery, twice possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life and twice possessing a prohibited weapon.
Khan is charged with robbing an amount of cash of unknown value from Mohammed Yousaf.
The firearms charges relate to alleged possession of a Mac 10 submachine gun and a 9mm handgun.
All alleged acts are said to have occurred on the same day.
