Male “Karen” berates McDonald’s workers for forgetting napkins

In a viral TikTok video, a McDonald’s customer attacks the manager and workers for forgetting to put napkins in his grocery bag.

User @jessicadmv1993 films the altercation from a distance behind the counter as the customer vents his anger on the McDonald’s staff.

“You better get your head out of your ass,” says the customer to the workers. “You gave us all this food and everything and not a napkin.”

The client directs his anger at the manager, ranting that she “should be smart enough to do something about it [the employees] do [their] Work.”

The manager and worker calmly ask if he needs napkins and eventually try to calm him down, but the customer was adamant and said that if he went to pick up his child without napkins in his bag, he would have become messy. One of the workers tries to defend the manager, only to be told by the customer, “Shut up. I do not talk to you. She’s the manager, I talk to her.”

Essentially, he starts talking about how he’s owned a company for 27 years and that the manager is responsible for making sure the other employees “don’t make a mistake.” This appears to be a common occurrence, according to the customer, who said he’s already made “five mistakes at the drive-thru.”

“Get dressed up,” he says as he storms off.

In the text overlay, the creator wrote, “Just a regular day at McDonald’s.”

The video has been viewed over 143,000 times since it was posted on June 29, with most not understanding why the customer was upset about napkins.

“Just ask for napkins and calm down,” one person commented.

“All because of napkins?!!! ‘ asked a second.

“A bit exaggerated just because you’re missing napkins. When the swearing and abuse started, he lost all credibility,” explained another.

Some even told how they stock up on napkins. “AMATEUR, that’s why I have napkins in my center console! How happened!” one wrote.

However, there were people who took the customer’s side, claiming that McDonald’s often tends to make mistakes.

“I mean, McDonald’s messes up our orders all the time,” one person said.

“McDonald’s really has this problem. Or when you order 2-3 meals for your family and no ketchup or napkins. How serious,” agreed a second.

“No, because it’s a real problem. Not only McDonald’s but also many fast food restaurants don’t give out napkins which is frustrating,” wrote a third.

“He tells facts, they never give you napkins, ketchup or sauces even if you ask at the speaker. then they get angry when you check the window,” one wrote.

To which the creator replied, “Even after the customer has all their food/drinks, we’re just trying to do our job, man.”

Although it is not known in which McDonald’s this incident took place, a new law governing the distribution of condiments in fast-food restaurants has been passed in California. According to City Journal, California passed a law in 2021 requiring napkins, straws and other condiments to be requested, which applies to both eat-in and takeout orders. Assembly Bill 1276 prohibits “a food establishment from providing any single-use food accessory or standard condiment, as defined, to a consumer unless requested by the consumer.”
