Mailman shares how he keeps his cool while working without air conditioning

A postman shares how he keeps his cool while working in Phoenix, Arizona, in a viral TikTok. The clip prompted viewers to comment on the lack of air conditioning in mail trucks.

Ezekiel Cieslak (@zekecieslak) posted the clip on Saturday with the caption, “It’s no easy work, but it’s honest work.” In a screenshot from the Weather app, you can see that temperatures for the week are over 100 degrees Fahrenheit lie. The hottest day should reach 114 degrees.

“Right now, of course, staying hydrated is important, so I typically drink 150 to 200 ounces a day,” he says in the clip, showing off his ice bucket in the truck. “I’ll fill up my cooler with ice and then I’ll definitely grab an Electrolyte Freezie Pop.”

He continues: “Don’t forget the Powerade. Orange is the only taste that matters.”

“I make sure to stop and drink every 15 to 30 minutes and always take my breaks in the shade,” he says, showing off his uniform standing in the shade. “You must also wear long sleeves and a brimmed hat.”

Then the clip shows a small fan in his truck. “Yes we don’t have air conditioning but that fan actually helps and by the end of the day I’m drenched in sweat and covered in salt.”

As of Monday, the clip has nearly 530,000 views.

According to that Seattle Times, the mail trucks we know hit the road in 1987, and no, they don’t have air conditioning or airbags. They also have “unreliable” heating systems, meaning postmen can overheat in the summer and freeze in the winter. In fact, some trucks have caught fire after exceeding their 24-year service life. Swiss Post is expected to renew its current vehicle fleet in 2023.

A lot of people were unhappy to hear that the mail trucks don’t have air conditioning.

“No air conditioning. is a crime,” said one viewer.

“This is an inhumane man, it’s fucking 2022 and government vehicles don’t have air conditioning,” another TikToker wrote.

“I literally [do] Don’t mind paying taxes so you guys can have air conditioning in the car!!! That honestly sounds illegal,” added a third.

Other people chimed in as they help their postmen. “At my old house I used to have cold water and Gatorade for my postman/girl. You always appreciate it,” wrote one user.
