Macy Gray sent a powerful message to critics after making “transphobic” comments on Piers Morgan Uncensored.
The 54-year-old I Try singer was met with unflinching backlash after telling the TalkTV frontman: “Just because you’re leaving, change yours [body] Sharing doesn’t make you a woman, sorry.’
When asked what a woman is, Gray said, “I would say a human with breasts. That’s where you have to start. And a vagina! This is getting confusing.”
During Monday’s episode of his cover show, Morgan addressed the debate about trans people competing in sports, saying that while he “supports all trans rights to fairness and equality” — to which Gray agreed — he does not support “brawling.” of trans women “support women in their sport” if they “were born with obviously physically superior bodies”.
Gray’s comments have been met with intense scrutiny, including from the Mighty Hoopla Festival, which the artist attended last month.
Although the American musician issued a statement of apology on social media yesterday, Gray decided not to mince words in her latest tweet.
She wrote, “Any of you who come to my side, threaten me and berate me — just because I said something you don’t agree with — be whatever you want to be and get out.”
After her meeting with Morgan went viral, Gray clarified her comments she made on social media on Tuesday.
“I have nothing but love for LGBT+ and transgender communities,” she wrote. “I’ve been a supporter since day one and never a wrong one.
“My statement on Piers Morgan was BIG misunderstood. I respect everyone’s right to be who they want to be.” (see)
Following her performance at Mighty Hoopla in June this year, the festival released a statement condemning her comments and expressing her support for the trans community.
“We are extremely disappointed by Macy Gray’s comments on Piers Morgan’s Uncensored TalkTV,” the statement said.
Mighty Hoopla emphasized that “trans people and their bodies are not up for debate, and that cis TV personalities and the channels that host them need to stop discussing them on the air.”
The message concluded with the emphatic statement, “Mighty Hoopla will always stand with our trans family.”
