Greg James hasn’t held back on revealing exactly who he was looking for to win Love Island 2022 and admitted he’s relieved Gemma Owen and Luca Bish missed out on the £50,000 prize.

During tonight’s romantic finale, Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu and Davide Sanclimenti were crowned the winners of the series, leaving Ekin-Su speechless and Davide grinning from ear to ear.

Earlier in the evening, Tasha Ghouri and Andrew Le Page were announced in fourth, before Indiyah Polack and Dami Hope finished third.

Before the winners were announced, a compilation of messages was shared by celebrity fans including Love Island USA host Sarah Hyland, comedian Alan Carr, Black Eyed Peas star and radio host Greg, who posed as the true ‘Ekinde ‘ proved ‘ fan.

Half an hour before the winners were announced, Greg tweeted: “Luca thinks he’s going to win doesn’t he.”

However, when it turned out that wasn’t the case and Ekin-Su and Davide took over the title, the BBC Radio 1 DJ added: “Phew.”

Meanwhile, former Love Island winner Amber Gill tweeted: “MOM & DAD!!!” with a bunch of trophy emoji.

While many fans are overjoyed by the result, some were furious at the last-minute twist revealed by presenter Laura Whitmore that the £50,000 prize would not be stealable.

Despite the fact that no winning couple has ever stolen the money, viewers couldn’t believe the option was taken away.
