London: Man ‘raped and abused by father’ killed in knife attack

A man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for killing his father, who he alleges sexually abused him.
Sean Maurice, 31, admitted manslaughter but was acquitted of murder after stabbing Paul Maurice, 52, 30 times in the back and chest.
During his arrest, he told officers, “I have nothing to lose.
“You all are trying to arrest me for beating up my father who abused me, he raped me… and you want to arrest me? What kind of** Justice is that?’
The mortally injured Mr. Maurice desperately called his neighbors for help on the evening of September 14, 2021.
The couple found him, covered in blood and shirtless, slumped on their doorstep in Bromley, south-east London.
The father told them his son attacked him and he didn’t want to die.
After rescue workers rushed to the scene, a police officer asked the victim who was responsible.
He replied “Sean” before dying at the scene at 11:56 p.m.
A manhunt was launched following the allegation, but ended after a few hours when Maurice was spotted running through the nearby backyards.
The accused ended up on the roof of a garden shed surrounded by police before he was eventually taken into custody.
He admitted manslaughter and said he lost control after a confrontation with his father.
In mitigation, it was said on behalf of Maurice that he had “borne the brunt” of his father’s mistreatment but still wished he hadn’t killed him.
The victim was a “terrible father,” suspected prosecutor William Elmyn Jones KC.
But police said violence was still “never justifiable” as Maurice was sentenced to a decade in prison after a trial at the Old Bailey.
Detective Chief Inspector Chris Wood, the lead investigating officer, said: “Our thoughts today are with the family who have been devastated by the events of that night.
“We know Sean’s relationship with his father was difficult and has been for many years, but the level of violence used here was shocking and can never be justified.
“I am grateful to my team of officers who have worked so diligently on a very complex investigation.”
